Shibuya Fansubs os ofrece un nuevo clásico: Ribon no Kishi (El caballero del lazo, conocida como La princesa caballero). La serie está basada en el manga del maestro Osamu Tezuka, y cuenta la historia de una princesa que debe hacerse pasar por hombre debido a las leyes de su país. Se produjo en 1967 y muestra una animación muy sofisticada para la época. Voy a tomar los subtítulos de los cuatro primeros capítulos de la página www.destinyofroses.org, que realizó una versión anterior de la serie y puso los subtítulos a disposición del público, que he adaptado para mi propia versión. Espero poder ir sacando este anime a un ritmo razonable (mientras me dejen). ¡Disfrutadlo!

Shibuya Fansubs offers you a new classic: Ribon no Kishi (Ribbon Knight, widely known as Princess Knight). The series is based in the master Osamu Tezuka´s manga, and it tells the story of a princess who must pass as a man due to the laws oh her country. It was produced in 1967 and it features a very sophisticated animation for its time. I´m gonna take the subs for the first four chapters from the page www.destinyofroses.org, who made a former version of this series and put the subs at disposition of the public, which I have adapted for my own version. I hope to release this anime at a reasonable rate (while they let me, that is). Enjoy it! And very soon, a floating subs version also.

Además de la versión inglesa con subtítulos fijos, se han añadido subtítulos flotantes en inglés, así que los angloparlantes podrán elegir entre ambas opciones, y los hispanoparlantes tendrán más fuentes para descargar. Yes, finally we´ve got the re-release of the first seven chapters, with improved picture quality for the first ones. From now on this will be considered the canonical version of the chapters, and thus the previous versions have been removed from scarywater. Besides the hard subbed english version, the dual one now has english floating subs too, so you´ve got both choices, and spanish-speaking people have more sources to download. Enjoy them, and soon chapter 8!

¡Hola, Shibuya Fansubs sigue en marcha! El capítulo 5 se ha demorado un poco debido a que estoy trabajando (¡nuevamente!) en mejorar la calidad de la imagen. Creo que los próximos lanzamientos os sorprenderán agradablemente. También voy a pasar al formato 640x480, que es más universal. Este fin de semana estará disponible el capítulo 5, y también próximamente una recopilación de los cinco primeros capítulos.

Hi, Shibuya Fansubs is still rolling! Chapter 5 has delayed a little cause I´m working (again!) in improving the picture quality. I think the next chapters will be a nice surprise for you. I´m also switching to the 640x480 format, which is more universal. This weekend chapter 5 will be available, and soon also a compilation of the first five episodes.

Yoko necesita un primer éxito, pero el presupuesto de la agencia es limitado. Harada tiene entonces la idea de encargarle una canción a Saku, el pianista del Alice, que además ha trabado amistad con Yoko. ¡Pero Saku se considera un artista, y no quiere tener nada que ver con "agencias de mala muerte"! ¿Conseguirán convencerle a base de regalarle zumo de tomate y whisky? ¡En este capítulo se explica el origen del sobrenombre "Yokyun" (sólo en los subtítulos), así que estad atentos!

Yoko needs a first success, but the agency´s budget is limited. Harada then has the idea to ask a song for Saku, the pianist of the Alice, who has made friends with Yoko. Encontrar alojamiento en Tokyo parece misión imposible, pero Kumiko es una mujer de recursos, y se lleva a Yoko y Saki al almacén de Omo-san, la fábrica de juguetes donde pasó su infancia. Además de juguetero, Omo-san es un experto heladero, e incluso director de orquesta aficionado. Aparte de darles alojamiento en el desván de la fábrica, Omo-san enseña a Yoko y Saki su particular "sinfonía del helado". ¿Qué es eso? ¡La respuesta en el capítulo 3!

Finding lodging in Tokyo seems an impossible task, but Kumiko is a resourceful woman, and takes Yoko and Saki to Omo-san´s warehouse, where she spent her childhood. Besides a toy maker, Omo-san is an expert at making ice-creams, and even occasionally an orchestra director. He does not only gives Yoko and Saki lodging, but teaches them his particular "ice-cream symphony". What´s that you say? The answer in chapter 3!

Podéis bajarlo usando este torrent. Para ver los subtítulos en el ordenador, lo primero que hay que hacer es descargar el Vobsub en este enlace e instalarlo:

Una vez instalado, escogeremos la opción "Direct Vobsub Configure". Vamos a la pestaña "General", y en el apartado "Loading", en la parte de abajo, elegimos "Always load". Luego a la pestaña "Main", pulsamos el botón "Open" y cargamos los subtítulos desde la carpeta donde los tengamos guardados, aceptamos los cambios y listo. Si no funciona a la primera, normalmente bastará con cerrar la película y volverla a abrir. Existen otros programas con lo que podréis realizar una operación similar.

Algunas consideraciones sobre el lanzamiento:

- ¿Por qué 688 x 500? Esta resolución está pensada para llenar por completo la pantalla del televisor, en el monitor deja dos pequeñas bandas arriba y abajo. Sé que muchos veis el anime en el ordenador, pero creo que la mejor forma de disfrutarlo es en el televisor, por eso doy preferencia a este método. Mi reproductor es un Woxter X-Vid 600, popular aquí en España y en teoría muy bueno, pero me gustaría que la gente me contara cómo les va con sus propios aparatos. De todos modos la versión dual va a pasar a 640 x 480, así que se verá a pantalla completa en el ordenador.

- ¿No ocupan muchos los capítulos? Aún estoy aprendiendo a codificar. Siempre intentaré que los archivos sean lo más pequeños posible, pero con buena calidad de imagen.

- ¿Qué pasa con los subtítulos? Estoy probando pequeños cambios en los tamaños y las alturas, para lograr la máxima comodidad de visión sin que ocupen demasiado. Pronto elegiré el formato definitivo.

- Why 688 x 500? This resolution is meant to completely fill the screen in a TV set, in a PC monitor it will leave two small strips down and above. I know many of you watch you anime in the PC, but I think the best way to enjoy it is on a TV set, so I favor this method. My player is a Woxter X-Vid 600, popular here in Spain and supposedly very good, though I´d like to hear other people experiences with their players.

- Aren´t the chapters too bulky? I´m still learning to code. I´ll always try the archives to be as small as possible with a good picture quality.

Yoko y Saki pronto descubren que vivir en la ciudad no es tan fácil como imaginaban. ¡Intenta encontrar un alquier barato en Tokyo! Por suerte vuelven a encontrarse con Hajime en el parque, quien les conduce al corazón de la noche de Shibuya. It´s an ogm format version, so it can be only viewed in the computer. I´t got spanish and japanese dialogues, with spanish floating subtitles. Between today and tomorrow I expect to upload the second chapter with fixed subtitles, in english and spanish.

¡Lo siento, Muu! - Sorry, Muu!

El capítulo 2 se encuentra en proceso de elaboración, debería estar listo este fin de semana. Espero que la calidad de imagen sea ligeramente superior a la del primero, tas las últimas pruebas. He hablado con algunas personas muy amables gracias a las que el proyecto puede pasar a ser dual, es decir con el doblaje español y el japonés, y subtítulos flotantes. Iré avisando sobre las novedades. La versión inglesa, no obstante, seguirá con el formato actual.

Me estoy encontrando con el problema de que la traducción española original no es del todo fiel, y no sé dónde conseguir una mejor. ¡A ver si alguien que sepa japonés me puede ayudar! Uno de los fallos es que se refieren a Muu en femenino, pero tras arduas investigaciones he descubierto que... ¡Muu es un chico! Esto se corregirá en los siguientes capítulos. ¡Al menos lo he descubierto pronto! Seguiremos informando.

Chapter 2 is underway, should be ready this weekend. I hope the image quality to be slightly better than the first one´s, after the latest tweakings. I´ve spoken to some very kind persons thanks to whom the project could go dual, that is, featuring the spanish and japanese dialogue, with floating subtitles. I´ll post more on this as it comes. Nevertheless, the english version will remain as it is now.

I´ve found the problem that the spanish broadcast translation isn´t 100% accurate, and I can´t find any other better. Somebody fluent in japanese could be of great help! One of the mistakes is that they refer to Muu as female, but after thorough research I´ve found that... Muu´s a boy! This will be corrected in following chapters. Well, at least I found out soon! We´ll keep informing.

Bueno, ha sido duro pero ya está. Algunos datos: El tamaño de los capítulos será de 250 megas, con una calidad más que razonable. Al final me decanté por el codec Divx. Habrá versiones en inglés y en español. En estos momentos estoy buscando la forma de distribuir en BitTorrent el primer capítulo en inglés, espero dar noticias sobre esto mañana o pasado. La versión española vendrá un par de días después, y más adelante los siguientes capítulos. ¡Que lo disfrutéis!

Well, it was tough but it´s done. Some data: The size of the chapters will be 250 MB, with a more than reasonable quality. I´ve finally chosen the Divx codec. There´ll be english and spanish versions. Right now I´m searching the way to distribute the first english chapter in BitTorrent, hope to post about this in one or two days. The spanish version will come a couple days later, and a bit after that the next chapters. I hope you enjoy it!

Bueno, los problemas técnicos están resueltos, ahora mi objetivo es lograr la máxima calidad posible en todos los aspectos: Imagen sonido, subtitulado... He decidido que los archivos no serán tan grandes, ocuparán como máximo 300 megas (no es necesario más), y la elección del códec aún no está clara, puede que acabe siendo Divx. ¡En unos pocos días disfrutaremos el primer capítulo!

Well, the technical problems are sorted out, now my aim is to achieve the highest possible quality in every aspect: Picture, sound, subtitles... I´ve decided the files won´t be so big, they´ll be 300MB at most (no need to make ´em bigger), and the codec choice is not clear yet, it may end up being Divx. In a few days we´ll enjoy the first chapter!

Bueno, voy resolviendo todos los problemas técnicos. Mi objetivo era haber distribuido el primer capítulo la semana anterior, pero espero poder hacerlo en la presente. Me he encontrado que añadir los subtítulos no era difícil, pero sí ajustar el tamaño del encuadre del vídeo. El códec será X-vid casi seguro, con un tamaño de unos 350 megas por capítulo. Espero que la calidad sea satisfactoria. Ah, también necesito encontrar ayuda con la distribución. Visitad la página para ir conociendo las novedades.

Well, I´m sorting out the technical problems. Mi aim was having released the first chapter in the preceeding week, but I hope to do it in the current one. I´ve found that adding subs was not that difficult, but cropping the video was. The codec used will be X-vid almost for sure, with 350MB per chapter. I hope to achieve good quality. Bienvenidos a Shibuya Fansubs, que comienza su primer (¡y quizá único!) proyecto de fansubtitulado, Idol Tenshi Youkoso Yoko. En esta bitácora encontraréis todas las novedades que se produzcan.

Estado actual del proyecto:

He terminado de ajustar los tiempos para los subtítulos del primer capítulo. Estoy encontrando dificultades para añadirlos a un archivo avi con una calidad final suficiente. ¡Se agradecerá ayuda técnica! También estoy teniendo algunas dificultades con canciones de las que no tengo la letra y con pasajes de los diálogos para los que no tengo una traducción totalmente fiable. Espero que la semana que viene todo esté solventado y comenzar la distribución.

Project current status:

Finished timing the subtitles for the first chapter. I´m finding troble to add them to an avi file with a proper final quality. Technical help welcome! I´m also having some difficulties with songs for which I lack the lyrics and passages of the script that need a more accurate translation than the one I have. I hope everything is solved by next week and to start distribution.
